Another Solar School for Christchurch
A grant from the Zayed Future Energy Prize, an international organisation that supports innovative solutions to create a sustainable energy future, has enabled Cashmere High School to install a 25kW solar PV system.
After winning the tender earlier this year, CPS Solar installed the extensive system, including WST260 WINAICO solar panels and 5kw and 20kw 3 phase Fronius Symo inverters, during the July School holidays. This is the first part of a two part renewable energy project. The second part will a 2kW wind turbine, due to be installed later this year.
Massive Potential Energy Savings
This commercial grade solar PV system will provide potential energy generation of 32,500kWh per year and will reduce their carbon footprint by over 4 tonnes per year.
Solar in Schools a Growing Trend
Cashmere High School joins a growing list of other schools who have turned to renewable energy. After a CPS Solar installation in April, Bluestone School in Timaru is now enjoying positive benefits from a similar system. The school is able to measure savings in real time with an online solar web tool, a snapshot on one of the coldest days of the year, 10 August 2016, showing great results!
This installation is the sixth solar system we have fitted into New Zealand schools. Other schools include Lyttelton Primary School and Lower Hutt’s Maungaraki School and Naenae Primary School.
